Compressed air booster

Main brands:

Ingersoll Rand

Compressed air booster
What is it for:

Compressed air boosters, also known as secondary compressors or high pressure boosters, are used to increase the pressure of compressed air generated by primary compressors. They are essential in situations where the pressure provided by conventional compressors is not sufficient to meet the specific needs of an industrial application.

2. How It Works:

Pressure Amplification: Compressed air boosters take low-pressure compressed air generated by primary compressors and compress it further to reach higher pressures. They usually consist of a set of compression stages, where each stage contributes to the gradual increase in pressure.

Compression Stages: Each stage consists of a cylinder and a piston. Air enters the cylinder, the piston moves, compressing the air, and the compressed air is then directed to the next stage, where the process repeats.

Cooling: The compression process generates heat, and some boosters incorporate cooling systems to prevent the temperature from reaching harmful levels.

3. Types of Compressed Air Boosters:

Piston Booster: Uses pistons to compress air in successive stages. They are effective for medium to high pressures.

Screw Booster: Uses rotating screws to perform air compression. They are efficient and suitable for high pressure applications.

Diaphragm Booster: Uses flexible diaphragms to compress air. They are suitable for situations where it is necessary to avoid air contamination.

Centrifugal Booster: Uses a rotating impeller to increase air speed, followed by a diffuser that converts kinetic energy into pressure. They are effective for very high pressures.

4. Importance in Industry:

Pressure Increase: Compressed air boosters are essential in situations where the air pressure provided by the primary compressors is not sufficient for the specific demands of certain industrial processes.

Specific Processes: They are commonly used in sectors such as petrochemicals, gas, manufacturing, instrumentation and other industries where higher pressures are required for specific operations.

Energy Efficiency: The use of boosters allows companies to maximize the energy efficiency of primary compressors, as they can be sized to operate at lower pressures, saving energy.

Operational Flexibility: They provide operational flexibility, allowing industries to adjust pressures as needed for different processes and equipment.
